20-02-2023

Addis Ababa, February 18th, 2023

Dr. Jean Kaseya has been appointed by the African Heads of State, as Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa-CDC).  The election took place on the sidelines of the 36th African Union Summit, which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The election of the Congolese Dr. Jean Kaseya, who replaces the Cameroonian John Nkengasong, is the epilogue of a long diplomatic struggle led for six months by the Head of State Felix Tshisekedi.

Aged 53, the Congolese won a selection of 180 candidates.
